What You May Not Know About Cockroaches

Did you know..??

  • A Cockroach can live without its head for up to a week
  • Cockroaches can hold their breath for more than 30 minutes both in water and on land
  • Cockroaches can run for about 3 miles in an hour. This makes it easy for them to spread germs and bacteria around the house very quickly.
  • There  are over 4000 species of cockroach.
  • Cockroaches are cold blooded insects and can live for up to a month without food but less than a week without water.

■People say, cockroaches are undeniably the only insects which can survive either a tornado, earthquake or fire outbreak and can never go on extinction because of its nature.

Unfortunately, All the facts above have shown that cockroaches are unique and indeed difficult creatures as they are swift, small and tricky.  Do you ever wonder why it seems as though cockroaches can never be completely eliminated? This is because they can easily adapt to any given environment, atmosphere and condition. Also during reproduction, the egg case of a cockroach could contain up to 50 eggs which develop very quickly and this helps in increasing their population in which ever place they make a home. This alone makes it difficult to control them because once they get comfy, they evade every nook and cranny of the house.

Cockroaches have been said to be the cause of diseases such as cholera, dysentery, gastroenteritis, salmonellosis and the most common which is leprosy. Their terrible smell and droppings could trigger athsmatic attacks

We could say “one man’s fright can be another man’s food” in this case because research has shown that some normal people in some parts of the world such as China and Korea  have used cockroaches as a source of  food, medicine and money

In those places where they are eaten as snacks, cockroaches are reared in a healthy environment, and this could also be a huge source of income.

Lastly research has shown that there are extremely powerful antibiotic properties found in cockroaches which could be used in treating certain bacterial infections (Which is a good thing by the way).
