What is data journalism?

This is an emerging branch of journalism which consists of the use of various kinds of data (statistics, charts, graphs or infographics) to present and provide context to a news story. Coping with rising flood of information in a data-driven digital world is tasking. Journalists adopt systematic data collation and analysis techniques to tell or premise stories. This is similar to precision journalism. But in today’s world where there exists multiplicity of rich sources (offline and online sources), journalists are shifting strategies and techniques from being the first person on the scene of breaking news, to adapting to the evolving role of providing context to series of trending and topical events.
