…Vows To Take Game To Super Eagles
Ahead of the Super Eagles’ World Cup Qualifier match at Algiers on Friday, the Algerian head coach, Rabah Madjer, has taken a slight dig at the Nigerian team, describing it as a team of benchwarmers, which has only one regular player in its squad.
Speaking during his press conference, Madjer said the Super Eagles should not pose any threat to the North Africans because it is a team with many players who don’t get to play for their European clubs.
He stated that Arsenal midfielder, Alex Iwobi, is the only player in the Super Eagles’ squad who get regular playing minutes in his club.
“I have studied the Nigerian team, apart from Iwobi, every other player is mostly a substitute for his team in Europe, but that doesn’t mean they will not be at the level to face us.
“The game against Nigeria is not a friendly match for me. To me, it is the first game of the qualifiers for the 2018 African Cup of Nations in Cameroun,” he said.
The Fennecs of Algeria host the Super Eagles, who already have the Russia 2018 World Cup ticket in their pocket, at the Stade Mohamed Hamlaoui from 8.30 p.m. on Friday.
On Saturday, the Nigerian team will fly aboard a chartered flight to Krasnodar, the Russian city that will host Tuesday’s international friendly against Argentina.
