Viral Video! Social Media Users want Support Fund for Brave Police Officer’s Family

Social media users have described the police officer seen in a CCTV footage engaging heavily armed robbers in a shout during a bank robbery, as a hero, suggesting that a support fund should be set up for his family.

The incident happened in February 2017. It was a robbery attack on Zenith bank Owerri. But no one had seen the CCTV footage of the attack until this moment when the video suddenly went viral.

The policeman seen in the video gunning down one of the robbers has been identified as Sergeant Chukwudi Iboko. The video showed the armed robbers in a vehicle driving into the bank, as one of them alighted and started shooting in the air. Sergeant Iboko then emerged from the gate house and engaged them, gunning down one of them immediately. As Iboko made for the gates to run away, one of the robbers was seen shooting him also. Iboko was said to have died in the hospital two months after the incident as a result of the gunshot wounds while two other police officers n the gate house with him who also sustained gunshot injuries, survived.

Some of the comments of people on twitter who watched the video suggest that the family of the brave police officer should not only be located but a fund should be set up in his name to reward his bravery and that of other officers. According to some of the comments reported by Punch, Sergeant Iboko should be celebrated.

“Can @MobilePUNCH find out who that gallant officer was so we can get to celebrate him?”@Omoboy tweeted, while Ruke Emu-V Igwe replied with “The guy is a real hero.”

Some Nigerians offered to help his family as a reward for his gallantry.

“I hope the injured mobile policeman is well attended to and compensated. Is there a way we can reach him and his family to send little help?”Olusegun Iselaiye tweeted.

Deo Ese also tweeted a similar thought, saying “We will like to know if the MOPOL is alive or dead, we want to start a GoFundMe for him or his family.”
