Uruguay Beat Salah-less Egypt 1-0

A Jose Maria Gimenez late header was enough to seal victory for Uruguay in their World Cup opener against Egypt.

Egyptian hit man, Mohammed Salah watched from the bench as his side fell to the late winner by Uruguay.

Salah whose 26th birthday was today was left devastated after the 89th minute goal.

With Russia winning 5-0 vs Saudi Arabia, the game held extra importance due to the hosts’ likely to hold a superior goal difference in most scenarios.

Uruguay vs Russia on Match day 3 now already appears to be a decisive for who tops the group.

In other matches played today, Iran defeated Morocco following a late own goal by a Moroccan defender ending the game at 1-0 in favour of Iran.

A Cristiano Ronaldo hatrick also saw the match between Spain and Portugal ending on a 3 all draw.
