Professor Olugbemiro Jegede, has called on all parents to take interest in the total educational journey of their children and wards.
The Professor Emeritus from the National Open University of Nigeria made this call while delivering the convocation lecture at the 22nd and 23rd Convocation ceremony of the University of Uyo held on the 3rd of November 2017 at the Institutions lecture theatre.
Professor Jegede, while delivering his lecture, succinctly and eloquently distilled the ethnology of Higher Education in Nigeria, the Origin, size and shape of the Nigerian University System, the collapse of the educational system, the indices of illiteracy and evidence of a collapsed educational system, the solution and way forward and changing the educational system through parents and the home.
Responding after the lecture, the Vice chancellor of the Institution Professor Enefiok Essien presented an award of honour to Professor Olugbemiro Jegede, as a sign of gratitude to him for gracing the event.
Meanwhile, a host of graduands seized the opportunity to express their joy at the success of the event. One of which was Dr. Chinedu Ugwonno who bagged a Doctors in Philosophy degree in mass communication.
Speaking to the press he said, ” Thank God this has finally come to an end. A journey of 16years is ending tomorrow and am very much grateful for that. The lecture from Prof. Jegede is indeed a masterpiece. This shows that he is indeed a veteran in the field, his achievement speaks volume and I also thank God that Issues such as the parents role in reviving our educational system was thoroughly exrayed.”
