What could be described as ‘small fire’ has razed rooms in Sonic Lodge, located in Achalla where some students of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) reside.
The fire which began at about 2pm on Tuesday, January 9, was said to have engulfed part of the lodge after some persons set fire on a nearby bush. The fire was said to have been blown to the lodge by the harmattan. It razed about two rooms before help could arrive. The lodge was still empty as students residing in the lodge had yet to return from Christmas break.
Heavy destruction was averted when some other students in other lodges saw the fire and put it out. That was before it affected two rooms.
