Toke and her husband, Maje Ayida, divorced in 2016, a marriage that lasted for barely two years. In a video, the OAP revealed that her relationship with her ex-husband Maje Ayida was a mistake. According to her, the marriage should not have happened in the first place. This comment on Cardi B’s visit to Nigeria falls into some of Toke’s controversial views on social media. She was reacting to Nigerians celebrating Cardi B for things she believed they would readily drag a Nigerian celebrity for if such a person does same.

Recall American rapper, Cardi B had arrived Nigeria 5th of December 2019, and for a better part of the weekend, the singer visited some places in Lagos to include a strip club. She received compliments from some Nigerians who felt those visits were cool and Cardi B was being real. Reacting to the compliments Cardi B got for that, Toke Makinwa pointed out the hypocritical nature of Nigerians, stating that if it were a Nigerian celebrity they would have dragged such person.

She wrote;

Nigerians Cardi B is so real, I Stan. Your own celebs living their lives like her. Such a disgrace! Morally corrupt! Bad role model! So plastic! So crass! So unintelligent! So razz! So loud!

These comments by Toke set the internet on fire as usual. Many social media users, including a few celebrities, called out Toke for making such comments about Cardi B.

One of the celebrities who came after Toke over that comment on Cardi B was Yomi Black, popular comedian and actor. He took to his Instagram page on Sunday, December 8, 2019, where he called out Toke Makinwa. According to him, Cardi B has never denied being a former stripper but he dared Toke to reveal the source of her unexplainable wealth.

“You see why people love someone like Cardi B? She owns her shit, just like the Kardashians. You get what you expect. She hasn’t denied being a stripper or enjoying showing her body. She doesn’t go around forming motivational speaker and quoting Bible passages on social media like some Saint. Dear Toke, I dare you to openly show how you can afford your lifestyle.

Toke made this comment on her vlog while giving her stance on her stance on premarital sex.

Here are lines from the video:

“Sex kills. It is bad for you to have sex if you are not married. You are dirty and God does not like dirty. If you are not married and you are watching this, if you are underage, I’m judging you because sex should only be with your rightful partner, with your husband. Why are you having sex? Close your legs and only give it to the person you want to spend the rest of your life with.”

5. My pu**y is worth more than N50 Million – September 2018

Back then this comment really buzzed the internet. If another person had said this you might not find it sensational but coming from someone who is already popular for controversial comments, this engaged social media users in their thousands with reactions.

Toke Makinwa has left many shocked after she revealed that her private part was worth more than N50m. She had disclosed this while reacting to a random question asked by a Twitter user.

When @Frank_LeanXV asked: ‘Take this 50 million naira and leave my child alone. Reply as a boyfriend/girlfriend.’

Toke replied: ‘Just 50 million naira????? Oga iz like you are on a mad something Mshewwwwww. I will get pregnant and have a child so I can be in your lives forever ???????? 50 million dollars then we can talk.’

4. “I Have Gay Friends And I’m Like The Mother Of Gays” – April 2020

This is another very controversial comment from Toke Makinwa that got the internet shaking. She likened herself to the “mother of gays”, adding that she has nothing against the sexuality of people around her.

The 35-year-old actress-cum-author disclosed this in a recent episode of her vlog, where she did a review of the TV series ‘Love is Blind’ alongside her stylist. As she made reference to one of the actresses in the movie, Toke said women often constitute a problem to themselves, adding that many prefer to egotistically run after men that reject them. Here are some lines from that video;

“Let me just say this out here: I’m like the mother of gays. I love my gay friends. They are the best friends to have. I have nothing against people’s sexuality.

“Why would you care about people that I’m sleeping with? I don’t care so much as to make it a thing.

“…The fact that he rejected her made her want him more. That is the story of many of us. It’s your ego that was bruised, not because you were really in love with those people.

“You spend two years mourning a relationship of six years not because you really like that guy but because you hate the fact that he rejected you.

“We like guys that we like, not guys that like us as women. It’s a thing. Women sometimes, we’re the problem.”

3. “You Do Not Own Your Partner in Marriage” – January 2020

This is another very controversial comment from the popular media personality and internet influencer, Toke Makinwa. Of course, she is not new to controversies but to say you don’t own your partner in marriage is a bit extreme for audience in any African society to just take in like that. The internet really shook this time after she dropped the comment on twitter. I doubt whether Toke was moved by the avalanche of condemnations that came her way after that comment. Many social media users made all sorts of disparaging remarks against her but she moved on as usual.

According to Toke, she does not believe one has to be owned in marriage as this concept is very flawed. She said everyone should be responsible for their actions in marriage.

Here are some lines from that tweet;

”I think the whole marriage concept of “owning” your partner is flawed. You do not own anyone, you are not responsible for another’s action, it should not drive you mad.”

The post has been generating reactions on social media. For instance, a Twitter user, @unclemidetush opined that marriage isn’t some sort of contract as both partners owe it to each other to make it work.

He wrote; “You’re wrong sis. Very very. Marriage isn’t some sort of contract. You always miss the point sigh. Both partners owe it to each other to make it work come rain come, come shine. So all that you stated is premium okoto meow meow skrrrr tbh.”

2. “African parents are the worst set of parents in the whole wide world … They ruined our lives.” January 2020

Wow! This one was a bombshell! Toke criticized African parents for what she sees as a very wrong approach to raising kids. She described “all” African parents as the “worst in the world” for “ruining lives” with what she sees as unorthodox child-raising values. She made this comment in an episode on her vlog.

Ironically, towards the end of the video, the 35-year-old OAP still said that many would have gone astray if not for the approach adopted by the same African parents she criticized. By then, the bombshell had been released. The comment almost broke down the internet with thousands of comments on all social media platforms and even mainstream media where it was published as story. Not many people watched the episode on her vlog; just a few thousands. But when other platforms started posting these comments, the internet was literally set on fire with mixed reactions, some condemning her while others supported her. Toke went viral as usual.

Toke did not take it easy with African parents at all. She vented her grievances about the parenting values among many African families which she said are “screwing up” lives. She also spoke on issues spanning parents’ intolerance for opposite-sex friendship, the way they dictate career choices for their kids, as well as their “penchant” for instilling fear in children. Here are some of the lines form that video;

“Thanks to African parents for ruining our lives. Growing up in an African home, there are certain things we never had the balls to say. Even now, I’m 35. I still can’t stand up to my parents.

“African parents are the worst set of parents in the whole wide world. You never have an option on things that are coming in an African home. As a child, you’re told what to read in school.

“They don’t tell you what you’re good at but what they think you should be doing. It’s like, ‘I want to have a doctor, so my child must read medicine.’ Even if you do shit in maths, you’ll be an accountant.

“African parents don’t apologize. They’re never wrong. Doesn’t that bother you? How dare you say they are wrong? You almost become less confident because of the scoldings of an African mother.

“Our parents have sex. But we can’t envision it. Things happened to me: If a boy calls you on the phone or writes a love letter, you’re finished! Going to church? We did it because they wanted us to,” she added.

“They told us to stay away from boys. We did for so long that we don’t have boyfriends. But when you’re older and are yet to marry, they call all sorts of pastors to pray for you. Something is wrong!”

If you missed this episode you can watch it here. Toke held the internet hostage for several days after dropping this bombshell which is definitely one of her most controversial comments since she became a social media influencer.

1. “Every woman should have a vibrator. I have three types….”  – March 2020

This could rank as the most controversial comment Toke has ever made since becoming a popular social media influencer. This particular comment truly broke down the internet. The OAP first made this comment on her vlog but multiple platforms carried it to almost every corner of the ‘earth’. Another controversial aspect of the comment is that it was made while the world was in the middle of a war against an unseen enemy – coronavirus. This was the last thing people were expecting from any personality at a time most other celebrities were encouraging people to weather the storm of OCVID-19. But trust Toke, always unpredictable. She drew the attention of the world to her vlog using this comment.

According to her, everyone woman needs a vibrator which is very necessary especially in modern times. Here are some lines from that video;

”I think every female should have a vibrator. I mean are you crazy? You don’t have one? in 2020? Like dude how do you even know what your body needs? I have three types of vibrators that you should get. One is the bullet, the rabbit, it’s okay to known your body.”
