Top 10 Children’s TV Shows In Nigeria

 

Nigeria has an interesting and evolving broadcast media landscape. Radio and Television stations have programmes that are targeted towards satisfying the information, education and entertainment needs of children. A number of these programmes standout among many others. Some of these programmes are not only popular among audience in the states where they are hosted but are also enjoyed by audience across Nigeria. Here is a list of top 10 Children’s television shows in Nigeria.

11. KKB Show

This was one of the classic programmes kids wanted to watch. It is a Nigerian reality kids’ TV show, which adopted the magazine programme format. There a different segments in the show which provided fun and excitement to children. The segments include drama, lifestyle, story time and more by kids. Kids wanted to feature on the KKB show. The show recently buzzed the internet after a video showing high-profile entertainer, Teni, playing the role of Chief Judge in one of the KKB shows while she was a kid, went viral. This show will always make the list of top Children’s shows on Nigerian television. The KKB Show is now on WAPTV channel 262 on DSTV and R2TV Gotv 112.

10. Once Upon a Time

This is a show  where children come together and the anchor Nkiru tells them a story. Sometimes the children are allowed to tell their own stories. The show is used to educate and pass moral lessons to children. The anchor uses stories to teach children morals. She tells them what will happen to them if they did something bad and what will happen to them if they did something good. It is held in Lagos, showed by African magic family everyday 4:30pm.

 

9. Bolu’s Gallery

This is a TV show where children are taught how to make things with cardboard paper and how to draw things in an easy way without wasting much time. It is anchored by Bolu who does the things on TV for the children to watch and learn. It is aired every Saturday by 12:30-100 on WAP TV. This program helps improve the drawing skills and ability of children who watch it because he makes drawing so easy and a pleasurable thing to do.

8. Super Smart Kids

This is a TV show where children are given waste products to recycle them into something else. They are divided into theme art and theme science to know which theme wins the challenge. It could either be to recycle or they can be asked to sell some products to see how creative and innovative they can be in selling the goods. It has three judges who determine who wins among the children. The show lasts for 30 minutes. If they are given a task this week then next week will be for grading. Here children prove how smart they are and how fast they can reason.

7. Cookies Cook

This is a program where the teenagers display their cooking skills. It could either be bakery food, starter, main meal, or desert. The Cookie Cooks is a cooking entertainment show which is presented by teenagers who are on a self driven quest to create new recipes and improve the eating habit of people. Most times they have foreigners coming to learn a local recipe and in turn teach them theirs. In the program you get to learn how to make a lot of things e.g you can make a starter with a garri cake which is done with garri, suga and coconut flavor mixed together with water, molded into balls and fry. The show is very interesting and educative to children. Its judges are kids but in most cases they invite adults to come and taste their delicacies. It is presented by African magic family from 4:00-4:30pm.

6. Cowbellpedia

Cowbellpedia Secondary School Mathematics TV Quiz show. The programme is primarily a search for the best students in Mathematics amongst Secondary Schools in Nigeria. Promasidor Nigeria Limited, manufacturers of Cowbell milk, is the sponsor of the initiative. The thrust of the programme is to provide a credible platform that will identify and reward excellence in the subject area of Mathematics among Junior and Senior Secondary School students in Nigeria. It is a mathematical program where children solve maths questions of different topics under seconds. There are four different categories, the junior, senior, semi final and final category. It is aired every Saturday by 6:00pm by African magic family. It is anchored by Oscar Gbemileke Oyinsan whom the kids refer to as quiz master.

5. Kids Say The Darndest Things

Originally, “Kids Say the Darndest Things” is a successful American reality based television show originally hosted by Bill Cosby which features children as the main stars of the show. The Nigerian version was premiered in 2015 on AIT Channel 21 and DSTV Channel 253 powered by Cliqlite from Etisalat in partnership with Indomie and Cool FM. The programme provides the platform for children to express themselves in an unscripted, unrehearsed way, on various aspects of life.

“Kids Say the Darndest Things” is a TV show where children are allowed to say what they think about issues. It is a platform where you get to meet extra smart kids. It is anchored by Tony Okungbowa and Chioma known as Chigul. She is from Anambra state, the show starts by 5:00pm every day and it is hosted in Lagos State and presented on African magic family. The kids talk about issues or topics in politics, economy, social life etc. They are also given tasks to perform in order to see their ability and smartness.

4. Mudi Goes To School

This is a very popular animation TV show for children where they are taught every subject. It is a learning platform for children where they could learn those subjects or topics they find difficult in an easy and fun-filled way. Kids love this show because of its animation format. As you know children are attracted to cartoons. The show which is created by Nicademia is an educational and comedy-twisted cartoon for students. Toluwalase Seriki (Lashe .T) is the animator behind creative the cartoon characters designs and scenes. The show airs on Silverbird Television daily and on Wazobia Max/Wazobia TV every Saturday 9.00am to 9.30am.

3. Bino and Fino

This is a very popular animation series which originated from Nigeria but has made waves across the globe. Bino and Fino is created by Adamu Waziri, a Nigerian animator, and produced by his Nigerian based animation company EVCL. It  is an African educational cartoon about a brother and sister who live in a city in sub- Saharan Africa. In each episode Bino and Fino, with the help of their friend Zeena, the Magic Butterfly and their family, discover and learn things about the world. Aimed at children between the ages of 3 and 6 years, the series shows aspects of African history, culture and languages and educates children from all backgrounds, writes http://venturesafrica.com.

The creator, Adamu says there is a hunger for such programmes in an ever-growing multi-cultural society and parents feel let down by major international broadcasters.

Adamu and his team have set about helping to change the status quo and with Bino and Fino, the first of its kind to come from Nigeria, they are succeeding. The pilot episode of Bino and Fino was released in 2010 and has been well received internationally, with profiles on CNN and The Huffington Post. 2. Turtle Taido

Adventures of Turtle Taido is an animation series owned by Tayekeni Productions. The creator and executive producer is Muyiwa Kayode. This is the story of a bubbly, lively turtle who travels to different cities on an adventure. On his journeys, he makes friends and learns about different cultures. He also learns about different animals. His special powers enables him get himself and others get out of trouble. His experiences teach viewers to understand diversity and live with others in peace and harmony. The series has received positive reviews and was nominated at the Abuja International Film festival, in the Animation Category. Created and Produced by MuyiwaKayode, the educational series launched on Africa Magic Family Channel in July 2015, and has since been running on NTA Network, LTV, Silverbird TV, with plans to air it on other Nigerian channels.

 

1. Nnenna And Friends

This is a TV show produced by Wale Adenuga. It is where children come to display their talents in various acts such as singing, dancing or acting. It is anchored by Yinka Olukunga who goes by the name Nnenna during the show. Nnenna and Friends made its debut in 2009 following the success of the popular Super Story series titled, “Nnenna: a kid of love”. The platform provides a dedicated commitment to child development through edutainment. It is aired on WAP TV every Saturday. Nnenna and Friends is a very popular show not just in Lagos but across Nigeria.
