Strange Anger! LAUTECH students Put Up Current Vice Chancellor’s Obituary to Protest Prolonged Strike

LAUTECH VC

Students of Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), yesterday, put up an obituary of the institutions current Vice Chancellor, Professor Sulaimon Gbadegeshin, as a way of expressing their anger over the lingering strike action in the University. The University is jointly owned by Osun and Oyo States. Academic activities in the school have been shut down for many months due to face off between staff of the institution and the two state governments that own the university. It was reported that lecturers are not happy over the non-payment of their salary arrears amounting to N7.1 billion. So what the students did to show their anger over prolonged closure of the school is to announce the obituary of their vice chancellor.

Na wa o. Wetin you feel about this? Is this too extreme?

  2. They did that out of anger it looks as if the vice chancellor and the government is not doing anything about the strike and it is affecting the student since the vice chancellor is being silent over the issue they did what they thought is right to bring the vice chancellor to hearken to the voice of the student

  3. students of this days have problems of solving issues.. they should have done it in a better instead of praying for his death…2015054080(24)

Is too extreme quite alright but the students are not to be blame. why do Nigerian Universities and Government like to delay the students in their academic pursuits . Any way, although the students went too far by their actions, they would have done another thing fair rather than posting his obituary.

  9. NO IT NOT,the students are fighting for there rights, what ever the government are doing is not good, not paying the lecturer’s and preventing the students from acquiring the knowledge which the Payed for.

  10. Ubah Geraldmarthin Chidera

Basically the students are not to blame because they were expected to be in the class not at home but for them to go as far as putting up d obituary of their vice chancellor is far beyond the expectations, I mean there are other ways one can use to express such anger which includes rioting and all that. not this way (36)

  11. chei! the students went too far o but if that’s the only solution to their problem then so be it..their anger is that their academic life is about to be ruined because of the non payment of the staff.
I thought education to be the main priority but what this vice chancellor is doing to his staff and students is not worth it.

  15. hmm…it is obvious for the students to go that mile by posting a picture of there vice chancellor putting up his obituary is not encouraging because the university which goes on strike is the cause of federal government not paying lecturers and also owning them a huge amount of money which is not right and cannot give them motive of going further to teach in the university..so the vice chancellor is not in his right position to call them back without there money being paid…is unlawful of what the student did and is not suppose to be done…

  26. It is too extreme indeed! This is a serious issue that needs a serious solution. their actions shows how their anger is. by putting his Obituary picture shows that they are praying for his death and that can never solve the problem because the more they pray for his death the more he lives on. Please let the government help and settle things amicably. Group No:12 Quiz No:52

    More than extreme
The strike is not the fault of the vice chancellor rather is the that of the federal government but students don’t even care to know. The school authority should take drastic measures in other to prevent a thing like this or more worse than this from happening again.
