Remember him? He was the baby, Buhari Dauda, whose genital was cut off by his stepmother in Niger State. That was in June last year.
He is now dead.
Dauda died in Wada village, in the Shiroro Local Government Area of the state, after a brief illness.
The Director General of the Child Rights Agency, Mariam Kolo, who confirmed the development on Wednesday, said the baby had malaria which made his temperature rise, adding that he died despite taking prescribed drugs for the sickness.
Kolo said the victim had been slated for a genital transplant in the United Kingdom before he died.
She said the sickness was not a relapse of his earlier medical condition as he had been doing well after going through a series of corrective surgeries.
Kolo expressed sadness at the death of the baby.
The DG said efforts were ongoing to ensure that advice was given speedily on the death and the case of the stepmother, who had been remanded in the Old Minna Prison.
She said the state Governor, Abubakar Bello, and his wife, were devastated by the news of Dauda’s death as they had planned to contribute to the transplant.
