Course Title: Rural Community Newspaper

(A). BRIEF OVERVIEW OF COURSE
This course discusses the principles, concepts, characteristics, functions, contents and ownership of a rural community newspaper. It introduces students to the meaning and features of the terms ‘community’, ‘rural’, ‘rural area’ or ‘rural community’. It further discusses emerging trends and dynamics of rural news reporting, community journalism, the concept and role of a rural community journalist. This includes a discourse on the rudiments of pre-press, press, and post-press activities involved in rural newspaper management and production. At the end,students would have learned how to write for, edit, and publish a newspaper for the rural community, including small municipalities and semi-urban setting (including the Urban Villages).

(B). COURSE OBJECTIVES/GOALS
By the end of this course, students will have learned:
Basic concepts associated with rural community newspaper; Relevance of rural community newspaper in rural/national development; Rudiments of community journalism/rural news reporting; Basics of Rural Newspaper Management and Production; Understanding, reporting and operating in a rural community.
