National Union of Rivers State Students (NURSS) today protested at the premises of the state government house over unpaid bursary.
Reports have it that the students matched to the government house demanding audience with the state governor, Nyesom Wike, to officially express their unhappiness over the matter.
The state Commissioner of Education, Hon. Tamunosisi Gogo Jaja, while reacting to the incident on a radio programme on 92.3 Nigeria Info FM Port Harcourt, said he was surprised that the students went ahead to protest even when their leadership was aware that the state government was working on the payment.
He said the governor referred the matter to his office and there was a process to be followed before payment of bursary to the students.
He said there is a verification process which must be done to certify that those being paid are genuine students of the state.
