Following a recent protest by Students of the University of Ibadan (UI) which led to the closure of the institution, management of the university has suspended students’ union activities in the school indefinitely.
This decision was taken during an emergency Senate meeting of the University held on Tuesday to deliberate on issues regarding the protest and closure of the institution.
It could be recalled that on Monday, UI was closed by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Idowu Olayinka, after students staged a protest, blocking the busy Mokola-Ojoo Road, thereby causing gridlock for several hours.
The students protest was to call for management of the institution to provide Identity cards for students and also rescind the ban on use of cooking appliances in school hostels.
The school management should do what the student requires by providing the identity card inorder to avoid the protest.
As things is moving I think this will lead to bloody war

Is this the normal way of resolving the issue? through conflict…. they should be able to resolve this problem amicably to avoid lost of life or property…. If they spoil things they will still be the once to pay damages and not the VC…. they should apply wisdom in such case
This is a federal own institution i see no reason why an institution like UI will be lock just because of ID card the senate of the institution should resolve the issue and grant the student their request because is their evidence that they are student of that institution. But the issue of electrical appliances should be look into very well because most people are very careless and need vivid monitoring or else they will turn the school upside down to avoid story that touch they should be laid down rules that will guild the usage of electrical appliances in UI.
if cooking appliances would be prohibited, what then will the student feed on,atleast there are other ways to settle the case other than stopping the use of kitchen appliances.
why will the vice chancellor ban the use of cooking appliances in the school hostel its not proper because students love cooking by themselves instead of buying foods…they should please provide identity card for them because it helps a lot ,when any of them happens to be in trouble the identity card will be used in identifying the student.
