The Anambra state government is to offer scholarship to students who wish to enroll into the various agricultural Courses in the Anambra State Polytechnic, Mgbakwu.
Gov Willie Obiano who announced this at the Headquarters of Awka North Local Government Area, Achalla during the inauguration of his reelection campaign in the Council Area, said the funds for the scholarship has been factored into the 2018 state budget.
The governor who was accompanied on the flag off by his wife, Chief Mrs Ebelechukwu Obiano and members of his campaign train, was during the event, conferred with the Chieftaincy title of Ugonwanne Awka North.
The title which was unanimously conferred on the governor by the Council of Traditional Rulers of Awka North, was for exposing the people to windows of opportunities that abound in agric production and exportation, which had given them financial stability.
Addressing the people, Gov Obiano explained that Anambra state College of Agriculture, Mgbakwu was converted to polytechnic to contribute in developing agricultural strategies and manpower that will ensure that the vision of his government to reposition Agriculture to constitute a major foreign exchange earner for the state was realized.
According to him, this will also assist the state achieve food sufficiency and boost the capacity of farmers in the state to generate surplus for exportation.
He promised to procure five transformers in the area to stabilise their electricity needs, adding that his administration had completed the installation of 15 KVA transmitter at Isuaniocha to circulate to other communities in the area.
Conferring the title on the governor, the Traditional Ruler of Ebenebe, Igwe Chris Nnaegbuna expressed their unalloyed support the Obiano, especially in achieving his second time bid.
The member representing Awka North in the State House of Assembly, Hon Boniface Okonkwo disclosed that in keeping with his continuity promise, Gov Obiano continued with every project he inherited from his predecessor, saying he has the governor’s assurances that the Amansea – Ebenebe road would soon be completed.
In his welcome remarks, The Transition Chairman, Mr Emeka Onwuzuka while noting that the completion of Awba Ofemili road would attract heavy commercial activities and contribute in building the state’s internally generated revenue, promised the governor that their people were indebted to his administration.
