Two more sniper insecticide-related suicides have been reported in Lagos State. On Wednesday, May 17, a young lady in her early 20s, identified as Patience Akpan took Sniper insecticide and died at Bada Hospital, Bale road, Lagos state.
On Friday, May 12, a hairdresser identified as Yetunde Oladipupo, aka Iyabo, committed suicide on Onabola Street, off Owotutu bus-stop in the Somolu area of Lagos State by taken Sniper insecticide because she could not repay a loan of N150,000 which she took from a microfinance bank and the creditor had been pestering her to pay.

The case of Patience:
Patience was said to have left her father’s place that Wednesday afternoon before she was seen in another street within the area crouching in serious pains, with the sniper bottle still in her hands. She was rushed to the hospital where she later died. Details are still sketchy.
The case of Yetunde:
Punch Metro reports that Yetunde took an insecticide, Sniper, that Friday shortly after seeing off some friends who had visited her. Punch investigations revealed that Yetunde who was an indigene of Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State had taken a loan of about N150,000 from a microfinance bank and the creditor had been pestering her to pay.
A resident, who spoke on anonymity, said the victim was always depressed because she had no means of repaying the debt. He said, “Iyabo (Oladipupo) has four children and her husband is based in Abuja. He comes home once in a while. She was a hairdresser and had a small shop where she sold some things.”
Another resident said two friends had visited her a few minutes before the incident, adding that it was after the visit that she decided to take her life.
Punch reported that a top official of the general hospital Gbagada confirmed that the victim was brought to the hospital around 7pm, adding that she died in the early hours of Saturday.
