Motion Without Movement! 6 Signs You’ve Become Comfortable With Average

We work hard everyday to get to the next level in life. At a point we think we have arrived, not knowing we are only running around at the same spot. We suddenly get comfortable with an average life without knowing it. Well, this interesting piece by Dan Western provides insight on how you will know when you are experiencing motion without movement. Read it!

6 Signs You’ve Become Comfortable With Average

It’s one thing just being average in general, and wanting to improve upon yourself and be all that you can be. However when it hits you, that feeling of comfort that shouldn’t really be associated with ‘average’, then you know you’re in trouble.

For a lot of people, there comes a point where they will have been in a position in life for so long, that they start to become comfortable with it. They get used to it. Most of us in a similar position would be wanting to work our way out of it for a better life for us and our family, but there comes a point where people just don’t care anymore.

They’re not financially stable, nowhere near, but because they have been doing ‘alright’ for several years, then why should they change?

“Life is unpredictable and you never know what is coming next. Never get too comfortable; always be ready to change.”

So here are 6 signs that you’ve become comfortable with ‘Average’.

1) Awake when You Need to be Awake, no Earlier

You know exactly what I’m talking about. You’ve got your sleeping plan all worked out perfectly. You hit the snooze button several times, and then once you finally get out of bed, you know that you’ve left yourself exactly enough time to get ready and get to work.

Sound familiar?

The reality is that none of us really have enough time in just one day to do everything we want to do. Well, for those who have so many things they’d love to do in life, that is.

However, for anyone telling themselves they don’t have enough time, and yet they still only wake up when they need to be up, and not a minute before, what do they expect? If you aim to wake up everyday an hour or two before you actually need to be up, then think about how much more you could accomplish.

Apply the idea to anything you like. All I can say is that waking up earlier gives me an extra hour to promote this site, and when you have a full time job as well, every hour counts.

2) Start to Care Less About Anything You own

I’ve made this point once before, and explained that the best example is when people buy a cheap car just to get them from A to B.

They buy the car with the intention of saving up to get one a lot smarter and faster, but as time goes on they start to become more comfortable in the one they have already, and begin to care less about it.

What they’re essentially doing is becoming comfortable with the uncomfortable, and they don’t care whether they crash or it gets stolen because it’s just a cheap run around. Although, if they lose this one, they will have to fork out the dollars for another one, and the whole cycle repeats itself.

3) Been in Your Job for 3 Years with Little Progress

You know how you first enter a job and you’re thinking 1 of 2 things. It’s usually either that you’re going to quickly move up the ladder of the company, or that you’ll use this job as a stepping stone to move to a higher position in a different company a couple of years later.

The problem is that after 2 or 3 years, you notice that you haven’t gotten too far, but you don’t do anything about it. You’re happy to say that it will come with a little bit more time, instead of looking for another job. But before you know it, 10 years have gone by and you’re still in the same position as before, and it really does show that you’ve become comfortable with average.

4) Find Yourself with a lot of Free Time

How often do you find yourself lounging around the house, or calling a friend up simply because you have nothing better to be doing with your time?

Isn’t there something in particular you want to be doing? The world is filled with so many places, people and sights, and yet you can’t think of anything better to do than lounge around.

What about focusing on improving your career, your mind, your body? What about meeting new people, trying new things and exploring new places?

If you really just end up lounging around with nothing to do, then that’s a clear sign that you’ve become comfortable with average.

5) Made Little Improvement with any Skills Recently

When was the last time that you worked on a particular skill that you’re interested in? Successful people are always looking to improve upon their skills, even the ones they hardly use. You have so many hidden talents that you’re simply unaware of, because you haven’t even given them a chance to show themselves.

Even right now whilst typing this post out, I’m trying to improve my writing skills.

Don’t let good talents or hobbies that you have go to waste. Work on them and become the master of them.

6) No Longer Have any Goals in Life

It’s blatantly obvious that once you no longer have any goals that you want to be working towards, then you’ll start to become comfortable with where you are and what you have.

I hear you say “What’s wrong with being comfortable with where I am?” Well, truth is that many people tend to feel like they’re comfortable when they’re really quite the opposite. All it takes is a small change in the economy, in some form or another, for those people to realize just how wrong they were.

It’s not until that time comes, that it becomes too late for them to do anything about it. Whilst all along, the people that have been working hard towards their goals and constantly improving, are the ones that are able to take the hit of the economy and be left more or less unharmed.
