One of the most relevant and popular professional bodies which graduates of media, communication and related disciplines in Nigeria aspire to join is Advertising Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON). This is the recognized umbrella body of advertising practitioners in the country. If you want to practice advertising in Nigeria you are required to join this professional body to practice with the necessary authority and recognition your business requires. You can commence registration online or at any APCON office near you.
Who Is Qualified To Register?
If you have any of the following qualifications you are acceptable for registration: APCON Diploma in Advertising, HND or First Degree/Higher degree in Mass Communication, Marketing or Graphic Arts. Candidates (Nigerians and Non-Nigerians alike) who do not possess any of the above will have to sit for the APCON Professional examination before can register.

Categories of Membership (Student member, Associate member, Full member, Fellow)
According to Apcong, a person can register in the following capacities; Student member, Associate member, Full member, Fellow.
Student member
A person shall be entitled to be registered as a student member of the profession and being so registered to receive a certificate of registration if he satisfies the Council that he is undergoing a course of study recognized by the Council.
Associate member
A person shall be entitled to be registered as an associate member of the profession and being so registered to receive a certificate of registration if:
- Holds a University degree or Higher National Diploma in Mass Comm. or other professional qualification
- He is of good character
- He has not been convicted in Nigeria or elsewhere of an offence involving fraud or dishonesty
- He has attained the age of 21 years
Full Member
A person shall be entitled to be registered as a full member of the profession and being so registered to receive a certificate of registration if:
- He fulfills the conditions for registration under subsection (2) of this section and
- He satisfies the Council that in the five years immediately preceding that date of his application, he has been in continuous active practice as an advertising practitioner either alone or in partnership with other advertising practitioners
Fellow
A person shall be entitled to be registered as a fellow of the profession and being so registered to receive a certificate of registration if:
- He fulfills the conditions for registration under subsection (2) or (3) of this section
- He satisfies the Council that in the fifteen years immediately preceding that date of his application, he has been in continuous active practice as an advertising practitioner either alone or in partnership with other advertising practitioners and has in the opinion of the Council made significant contributions to the advertising profession (1992 No. 93)
