Maupe Ogun of Channels Television! Hot Facts You May Not Know About Her

Maupe Esther Ogun-Yusuf is one of Nigeria’s top female broadcasters in view of her growing profile as an On-Air Personality (OAP) with captivating programme presentation style. She is a household name in Nigeria and beyond especially among the huge audience base of Channels Television where she is plying her trade. She has engaged the high and mighty on different programmes, particularly on Sunrise Daily, the early morning programme on Channels Television which she co-anchors.

Education

Maupe is a famous Nigerian news presenter and reporter with enviable academic record. She got a degree in English Language from the University of Lagos after which she proceeded to the University of Anglia, Norwich in the United Kingdom where she obtained her Masters in International Relations and Development Studies.

Career in broadcasting 

Maupe began her professional journey as a broadcaster in 2007, getting experience in some other media houses before joining Channels TV in 2009 as a News presenter and Reporter. She later worked on the International desk, producing and presenting programmes like The World Today and Diplomatic Channel.

Her marriage

Maupe is happily married to her heartthrob. Their wedding took place on the 28th of December 2017. Her husband is Mohammed Bamidele Yusuf. The marriage occurred as a private event in Lagos. The couple had a traditional style wedding and church wedding as well.
Her husband Mohammed Bamidele Yusuf is also in broadcasting. He is a post-production specialist on Bloomberg TV Africa. They said that their paths crossed at work. Their marriage is blessed with a baby girl who was born in Houston,Texas, United States in November 2018. Maupe and her husband are doing well in their professional career in broadcasting.

Milestones

Maupe who currently co-anchors breakfast show “Sunrise Daily” has made landmark impressions with memorable shows as part of her track record. She was once the co-host of Nigeria’s Presidential Media chat. She co-hosted the “Young Person’s Interview” with US President Barack Obama, and “Townterview” with US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton. This is in addition to the “Oga at the top” edition of Sunrise Daily which she co-anchored with her colleagues and numerous other shows which features top Nigerian politicians. Maupe has keen Interests in politics, current affairs and gender issues.

Court case

Maupe’s career has not been without challenges thus far. She was once summoned to court by
The Federal High Court in Abuja which summoned the General Manager of Channels Television in Abuja and Maupe, to appear before the court on May 25, 2018. Justice Okon Abang, in a ruling on Wednesday in the case of former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) spokesman Olisa Metuh, said the television’s officials were being summoned in respect of the prosecution’s allegation that the television aired prejudicial statements allegedly made by a lawyer in Metuh’s defence team, Mr. Ben Chuks Nwosu, during one of the editions of Sunrise Daily.

Maupe had expressed shock over the summon as according to her, she thought it was actually a joke. Here’s her tweet on hearing about the summon. “I must confess that I thought it was all a joke AS I WASNT EVEN ON @sunrisedailynow ON THE 22nd of May this year. I was out of office attending another function and my alibis are plenty…I could only wonder how my name jumped into the matter,” she tweeted.

She was eventually discharged by Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, of any wrong doing in the trial of former PDP spokesperson Olisa Metuh. During hearing on the matter, Justice Okon watched a recorded version of the show and discovered that Maupe wasn’t on that particular episode. He disharged her afterwards.

Maupe’s career has constituted to blossom afterwards. Today, she is among the top female broadcasters in Nigeria’s media landscape.
