Mean-looking professional bouncers were said to have flooded the premises of Continental Broadcasting Service, the parent company of Television Continental, TVC and Radio Continental, on Friday, June 2, taking up strategic positions, ready to deal ruthlessly with disgruntled staff following the laying off of 145 workers in a major shake-up by the company.
It was reported that the mass sack was as a result of economic downturn in the country and to keep the media group alive.
P.M.EXPRESS gathered that the news was broken to the staff after a meeting at the station’s headquarters in Ikoyi, Lagos between the management and the entire staff.
Sources at the meeting said the Station’s Chief Executive Officer told the distraught workers that the sack became imperative because the stations are struggling to survive commercially.
It was gathered that prominent broadcasters were among those sacked on Friday as the station could no longer cope with a burgeoning workforce.
TVC is one of Nigeria’s foremost television stations.
It was gathered that the management has also shutdown its TVC International, with TVC Nigeria now to take over the former’s function.
Has Nigeria economy gotten to this? hmm….. Sacking workers in this kind of economy…. Not good at all
They should do what they think is right
This is serious. if the economy has gotten to this stage ,then Nigeria might one day be shutdown. When the media lay off workers, over 145,thereby reducing the effectiveness of the media. A state of emergency should be declared on the economy.
