Man jailed after he cut off both his legs under train to claim £2.4 million insurance payout

A 54-year-old man who is a resident of the Hungarian village of Nyircsaszari has been given a jail sentence and a heavy fine after he intentionally cut off his own leg just to claim a £2.4 million insurance payout.

It was gathered that the man identified as Sandor Cs. allegedly climbed onto the tracks so a train would run over both of his legs.

He did this after receiving financial advice telling him returns are better on insurance policies than savings accounts.

The accident led to both his legs being amputated from the knee down.

Since the incident happened, the man has been using prosthetic limbs and remained wheelchair-bound ever since.

Report has it that after the incident, his wife applied for the payouts but the insurance companies refused to pay, stating that they suspected her husband intentionally inflicted the injury on himself.

Due to strict local privacy laws, the defendant was found guilty of purposely lying down in front of a train so he could pocket the cash in 2014.

After the matter was taken to court, Cs. insisted he was innocent.

According to him, he stepped on a shard of glass which resulted in him losing his balance and falling in front of the train that was just departing the station.

The long-winded investigation concluded that he should receive a two-year suspended prison sentence and an order to pay £4,725 in legal costs.

Blikk reported that Cs said;

“I find the ruling very peculiar, naturally it isn’t what I expected, I am disappointed.

“I need to see this through to the end because, as is, this is not right, and the court must feel the same way.”

It was learnt that before the incident, Sandor worked in the thermal energy sector and installed boilers at home and abroad.

Sadly, losing his legs ended his career. He claimed that the injury and the legal case have bankrupted him.

Cs.claims he is currently studying law and desires to one day assist with people who have been manhandled by huge organizations. He also noted that he actually has many insurance claims forthcoming yet they are probably not going to pay up after the court’s decision.
Meanwhile, it has not been confirmed whether Sandor will be able to appeal the decision.
