Kudos! Two Nigerians Receive Queen’s Young Leaders Award

Two Nigerians have done the country proud by receiving Queen’s Young Leaders Award for 2017. They are Nasir Yammama founder of the social enterprise Verdant Agritech Ltd and Bukola Bolarinwa recognised for her work with the National Blood Transfusion Service that ensures a regular supply of donated blood.

The duo received the award at the 2017 Queen’s Young Leaders Awards Ceremony at Buckingham Palace, on June 29, 2017, in London, England.

Nasir Yammama27-year-old social enterprise who is into AgricTech. Forbes Africa has listed him in its “Class of 2017 30 under 30.”

Yammama is being recognised by The Queen’s Young Leaders Programme for his work in AgricTech. As founder of the social enterprise Verdant Agritech Ltd, the 27-year-old is using simple, low-cost technology to transform Nigeria’s agriculture sector.

Verdant, which began in 2015, is working with Oxfam and GIZ to help 25,000 farmers double or triple their yields.

Similarly, Bukola Bolarinwa who was born with Sickle Cell Disease was recognised for her work with the National Blood Transfusion Service that ensures a regular supply of donated blood.

Her work began after she noticed the shortage of blood faced by people living with Sickle Cell.

On this huge honour, she said, “I believe the Queen’s Young Leader Award will improve my leadership skills and help me to cement already established links with universities and colleges to develop a culture of voluntary and regular blood donation.”

She said her current goal is to recruit 5,000 registered blood donors by December 2017.

All we need is government assistance to provide necessary equipment that will help us to have a quality education, which will enable us to improve on our natural talent.
