A group of women who are sympathizers of the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) have organized a protest in Onitsha, calling for the suspension of the upcoming governorship election in the state.
The women were seen this afternoon, marching through the streets of Awada in Onitsha, saying “no elections in Anambra.” They were expressing their support for the call by IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu that Anambra elections should not hold.
Some of the women who spoke to the press said they were out to stand for freedom, adding that there should be no election in the state because the leaders of the country have deceived them.
In a quick reaction, an inside source with the state governor said the protest was ill motivated. He said any one calling for boycott of election in Anambra State did not have the future of the state at heart. He said the election will go ahead as planned and it will be peaceful.
