Yesterday marked different strokes for different folks in two communities in Anambra State in their expression of satisfaction with the visit of leader of Independent People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu to the state. It is no longer news that Nnamdi Kanu was in Anambra yesterday. It is also not news that IPOB members and sympathizers came out in large numbers to welcome the IPOB leader.
The aftermath of Nnamdi Kanu’s visit is getting more attention than his visit. It was gathered that Nnamdi Kanu was to visit two major communities, Nkwelle Awkuzu and Nkwelle Ezunaka but he only showed up in Nkwelle Awkuzu, abandoning scores of people in Nkwelle Ezunaka who waited all day for him to show up. Reports have it that people in Nkwelle Ezunaka started leaving the open field in the community where Nnamdi Kanu was expected to address them a few minutes past 7pm when it was confirmed he would not be visiting the community at all.
It was gathered that IPOB members and other sympathizers in the community were not happy with the development, alleging that this was the second time the IPOB leader was disappointing them. Sources said though people were unhappy they still maintained that they were behind the struggle which IPOB stood for. It was alleged that there was politics among IPOB members in the two communities and that was why those who had upper hand made sure Nnamdi Kanu visited Nkwelle Awkuzu and stayed away from Nkwelle Ezunaka.
Reacting to this allegation, an IPOB member who attended the ally held at Nkwelle Awkuzu which Nnamdi Kanu addressed, said there was no politics among the IPOB family. The IPOB member who spoke on the basis of anonymity said their leader, Nnamdi Kanu could not get to Nkwelle Ezunaka because he spent so much time in Awkuzu and had to leave afterwards.
The rally at Nkwelle Awkuzu which Nnamdi Kanu showed up for was said to be massive. He was said to have spoken amidst cheers from thousands of people who were in support of the IPOB agitation.
