A company’s strange punishment for under-performing female employees has ended up an internet sensation with YouTube footage of the act viewed over 6 million times.
Bizarre footage emerged recently showing female employees being forced to slap each other hard across the face during their company’s end-of-year gala.
The women, who all work for the beauty and skin care company Nanchang Jinhuayuan Meiye, are said to have underperformed throughout the year.
The extreme punishment was meted out on stage during the business’ end-of-year gala, which was held to celebrate the company’s 14th anniversary.
In front of hundreds of their colleagues, the dozen or so women from the sales department knelt on the stage and smacked each other across the face until their employer said stop.
Words written on the screen in the background read “Ruthless Team”- a mentality their boss was apparently trying to instil in them with the odd punishment.
Footage of the shocking incident was uploaded online where it has been viewed more than 6 million times.
An unnamed company spokesman tried to justify the incident by saying: “It was a show of team spirit.”
He added: “It happened during the opening of our year-end gala, and only once. Our team is strong.”
Social media users in China, where the clip went viral sparking thousands of comments, called the scenes “employee abuse”, but it is unclear whether the police will investigate the case.
