Anambra State governor, Willie Obiano has expressed his readiness to begin the dualization of majors roads in the three metropolitan cities in the state ,namely Onitsha ,Nnewi and Awka as according to him, this project has been factored In the 2018 budget.
The Governor who spoke at the Prof Dora Akunyili Women Development Center, Awka during an emergency Townhall meeting he held with major stakeholders in the state, ascertained that dualization of majors roads in the three metropolitan cities in the state ,namely Onitsha ,Nnewi and Awka has been factored In the 2018 budget which will be presented to state Assembly December this year.
The meeting attracted traditional rulers and Presidents-General of Communities in the State, religious leaders as well as opinion influencers in the state.
Governor Obiano used the event to brief the people on the outcome of recent Southeast Governors Forum meeting held at Enugu after which he said that other stakeholders that attended the forums includes the representative of our national Assembly members,Sen Ike Ekweremadu , Ohaneze Ndigbo was represented by its President General-John Nnia Nwodo, has formally appealed to President Muhammadu Buhari to withdraw the military from the South East ,and allow police do their constitutional duty of ensuring law and order.
He noted that the Southeast Governors Forum was championing the cause for restructuring of the country, adding that at their behest, several meetings have been held to discuss and articulate what is required in the restructuring process.
Gov Obiano debunked insinuations that the Operation Python Dance is targeted at annihilating Ndigbo, and asserted that it is a routine military operation and not a permanent one, recalling that last year, the Operation helped the state beef up its security drive especially during Christmas.
He appealed to the stakeholders to take the message down to the grassroot to inform their wards who are involved in the agitations to desist henceforth so as to safeguard their lives.
The Chairman, State Traditional Rulers Council and traditional ruler of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Achebe advocated the reproduction and distribution of the communique to the public to adequately sensitize them on the need to stay safe in this period.
In his remarks, the Chairman, Willie Obiano Re-election Campaign Committee, Chief Victor Umeh commended Gov Obiano for his tact in managing the IPOB situation in the State but called on the Federal Government to be even-handed in its actions, since according to him, most of the agitations are as a result of marginalization of the zone over time.
