Good move! FG approves re-introduction of History in schools’ curriculum

The controversy surrounding curriculum for primary and secondary schools nationwide may begin to subside as the National Council on Education (NCE) has approved the re-introduction of History into the training package.

The Chief Executive of the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), Prof. Josiah Ajiboye, announced NCE’s decision in Abuja on Thursday.

He noted that the re-introduction of History was agreed on at a meeting in Kano State.

“We were aware of the issues regarding Religious Studies in the present curriculum, which were recently resolved. But, as the government said, the decision to join the religious subjects was reached during the previous administration.

“The NCE held a meeting last week in Kano State where it also agreed that History should be re-introduced into the curriculum,” Ajoboye said.

  4. it’s high time Nigerians stopped toiling with the education sector. our education system is fast fading because of the way we handle the curriculum due to our indifference attitude towards that sector in this country. before a subject is removed from the curriculum the positive impact of that subject should be checked critically before it’s removal. yes it’s good that history has been reintroduced into the curriculum. now what happens to those students who graduated from various schools across the country at the time this subject was ruled out. they were denied the basic knowledge they were supposed to gain from this subject
