As an agrarian society, farmers in Ayamelum local government of Anambra state have continued to count their losses following the 2017 flood disaster which ravaged their farm land in a few days destroying both food and cash crops worth millions of money.
This was revealed in a visit to the affected areas by massmediang reporter who was taken round the farmlands in Omor, Igbakwu, Anaku, Umueje, Omasi, Umumbo, Ifite Ogwuari and Umerum towns of the local government.
While reacting to the state of the flood and the damages done so far, the local government Transition Committee Chairman Hon. Kenneth Okolo said that the flood had destroyed a lot of farmlands in the area, adding that one plot of his own rice farm had been flooded with three more to be flooded if the flood continues at its current pace.
The chairman further stated that the flood had negatively affected the lives of the people in the area, adding that the government of the state was making a solid preparation on how to tackle to the challenge of the flood.
It’s a pity. What a great loss.
