    FROM GRASS TO GRACE

    The history of Miss Ngozi cannot be complete without going through her early beginning. She is a native of Mbosi in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State. She is a photocopy operator at Freedom Square Business Centre in Aroma Junction. She is a final year student of Accounting (part-time student) in Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State.

    According to Ngozi, “it has not been easy for me in life. I have gone through thick and thin to get to where I am now. I came from a poor family and after my secondary school, there was no money for my parent to further my education, hence my present work”.

    “I started my photocopy work for over ten years now with a salary of N7,000. Due to my hard work, I rose to a position of coordinator, taking charge of our working materials and my salary was increased to N15,000. Due to my ambition for education, I bought the part-time form and was admitted into the department of Accountancy. I inform my boss about my admission and he granted me half-day on Friday and full-day on Saturday so as to be going to school”.

    “It wasn’t easy for me paying my acceptance fee, school fee and other necessary fees at first but I thank God who made it possible for me. And as it is my results are very okay because after work, I use to engage myself with my books for at least 3 hours each day. I really thank God for my life, am currently in my finals. In less than five months time, I will be a graduate”.

    In conclusion, “youths should stop deceiving themselves that their couldn’t further they education because of family background for they can really engage themselves for part-time while they work”. Determination is the key to success. Hard work really pays. Ngozi’s story is just an eye opener to those who have lost hope in life. It is indeed a story of from grass to grace.

    INTERVIEW:

    Q: Good afternoon, please may i know you?

    Ans: I am Ngozi, a native of Mbosi in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State.

    Q: Why do you choose photocopy work:

    A MAN THAT SUPPORTS HIS FAMILY WITH SHOE & BAG MAKING IN AWKA .
    This is an interview about a man name Mr Nweke John, a native of Nibo,Awka South Local Government in Anambra state.He is 68 years old also he is a family man.
    Mr John is a married man with five children,three of their children is currently living with their relatives and the other two lives with him,one is in school while the other is learning shoe / bag making with his father.
    John said he have been on this shoe making for more than 10years,he said he chose because not being opportune to go to school limits his options in life,so he went into shoe /bag making as something he is good at.
    Mr john also talked about his process of his job, the stress,the low profits and the view of the customers about his job , he also discussed how he managed to support his family with the little money he makes from his work,Even thou it was not enough he still thank God for life.

    Interviewee:Honestly it’s not enough but it depends on how the customer turns out each day ,I’m just managing and make sure my children go to school.

    THE BOY WHO TAKES CARE OF HIS FAMILY AS A KEKE DRIVER
    This is an article of a boy named Frank Emeh from Abia State but stays in Awka as a keke driver where he makes income to take Care of himself and his siblings.
    Frank Emeh said “he has been doing these keke business for six (6) years and through which he makes income to take care of his siblings because there parents are late and been the eldest he wasn’t opportune to go to school”.
    He has four (4) of his siblings staying with him in Awka and three (3) are in Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) while the other one is still in secondary school.
    He said “sometimes his keke might not be good for one (1) month or more than and he will start doing small things to bring food to the house,take care of his siblings and also repair his keke”.
    Most times he goes from one house to the other looking for what to do for the people like cleaning the house, washing dirty dishes and clothes and he also goes out looking for where they are building so that he can do some laboural work for them.
    Frank is a boy who drives keke but also does different things to take Care of his siblings because there parents are late and he doesn’t want his siblings to be a school drop out. Frank said that his advice to people is “To learn handwork and get something doing for income than engaging into illegal business”.

    Interviewer: What’s your advice to people out there
    Responds: My advice to people is to learn handwork or find any good business doing to take care of themselves and loved ones than going into illegal businesses because it won’t profit anything to them and the society.

    A 23 YEAR OLD IFEBUCHE OKAFOR SUFFERING WITH BREAST CANCER
    “Who will help me to leave?” was the consistent cry of my friend Ifebuche Okafor who was medically confirmed with breast cancer. It all started when she approached me telling me of what she discovered under her breast, as a friend I advised her to see a doctor at Amaku General Hospital which she did and it was confirmed that it was a lump and needed urgent operation to avoid damages. Though the money was not there but God provided through friends and well wisher.
    After a week the operation was carried on her she was not feeling too good she began to have severe pains which I again asked her to go back to the hospital for complaints. A second test was conducted on her this time the result was that the lump was just an ordinary one but it has developed into cancer. The girl looking pitiful and so depressed, was the empathetic sight to behold as she narrate her faith to me. Tell the story of agony of what she has been through since the situation became apparent.
    “ I was told by Dr. Okoye who had referred me to a specialized doctor at UNTH, Enugu for a proper operation without complications. After examining my case told me that the affect breast will be cut off. Getting to UNTH, Enugu they had another test run on me, there they told me how much involved for the operation. You should have imaged what happened when I heard them mention Five Hundred Thousand N 500, 000 for the operation, where can I get such amount of money? My mother is left with nothing and my uncles seem not to help us. Am so scared to them cut my breast.”
    Three months later Ifebuche and the mother channel to herbal medication since they could not afford the money for the operation. All effort to be well again was abortive but she continued crying and praying to God until that faithful day, 18th November, 2016. According to Mrs. Okafor Ifebuche’s Mother, “I was sitting close to her sick bed and she started coughing seriously for over 30 minutes without rest, rushing in to get water for her, she gave up. To my greatest surprise, the sudden death of my daughter came as a shock to me for all this happened within the period of one year but in everything who are we to question God”.

    Q: What is your name?
    Ans: My name is Chika Nwakalor.
    Q: How close are you to the deceased?
    Ans: She is my very close friend. People do take us as sisters some of the time.
    Q: How helpful were you to her during her situation?
    Ans: Though I offered not much help financially but in advise and comfort, I think I did what was seen as best to her.
    Q: To Mrs. Okafor, please ma would you like to say anything concerning the death of your daughter?
    Ans: The only thing I can tell you is that my daughter’s sudden death was a shock to me.
