Super Eagles of Nigeria put up arguably their best performance under Head Coach, Gernot Rohr, in their 4-2 international friendly win over Argentina on Tuesday.
Rohr’s boys entered the game as the underdogs and unsurprisingly went behind on the 28th minutes through Ever Banega’s freekick following an error from the keeper of the day, Daniel Akpeyi, who handled the ball outside the box.
Manchester City striker, Sergio Aguero, doubled the South Americans’ lead after another error from Akpeyi.
The game looked far beyond the Eagles till Kelechi Iheanacho halved the Argentines’ lead just at the end of the first period.
After the break, it was a goal galore for the Eagles as Arsenal ace, Alex Iwobi equalized the game in the 52nd minute to make it 2-2. New recruit, Brian Idowu added the 3rd for Nigeria before Alex Iwobi got his brace in the 73rd minute to see out the game.
Nigerians have reacted positively by expressing their satisfaction in Rohr having a good campaign in Russia next year when the World Cup gets underway.
However, the goalkeeping department has raised eyebrows on the Eagles’ chances in Russia considering a host of inexperienced goalies to man the post. The Eagles have conceded more goals through goalkeeping errors since the start of the qualifying series till date.
