The research examined Media reports of Governor Oshiomhole’s “go and die” hate comment and its influence on widows perception of his administration. The objectives of the study are to ascertain respondents’ level of exposure to the hate comment, their sources of information on the issue and the influence of the hate comment on respondents’ perception of the governor’s administration.
The study was hinged on the information integration theory. The census method was adopted in studying four registered widow association in Edo state with the 315 members as the population for the study.
Findings revealed that the widows’ perception of governor Oshiomhole’s administration and his personality were negatively influenced by his hate comment, which they got to know through friends, television and radio.
The researcher therefore recommended that leaders as public figures, should be mindful of their utterances and endeavour to make comments that will not incite the public against them.
