EXPOSURE TO ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE ON TV AND NIGERIA FOOTBALLERS’ PERCEPTION OF NIGERIAN LEAGUE
This research work examined TV influence on Nigeria footballers’ viewership of English Premier League. It further evaluated how often the respondents are exposed to English Premier League on TV, whether the respondents’ exposure to English Premier League affects their pattern of play, and whether the respondents’ exposure to English Premier League on TV influences their perception of Local League.
The survey research design was used in the study. The respondents are Nigerian Premier League footballers of selected club sides in South East. The findings show that, the respondents are often exposed to English Premier League (EPL) on TV and that exposure to EPL affects their perception of Local League.
The study recommended that radio and television stations in Nigeria should show live matches of Nigerian League at least twice a week. The TV owners should create special days for sports analysis for Nigerian League and also ensure that more of their reports are centered on Nigerian Premier League that the English Premier League.
