Environmentalist Honoured For Creative Ecological Reporting

An environmentalist, Uche Okafor, has been honoured with Best Creative Ecological Reporting award for adopting unique technique in attracting national attention to erosion problems in Anambra State.

Okafor who is the leader of an environmental advocacy group called Light Green Guard (LGG) recently attracted the attention of the public as photos he took at the erosion site near Anambra State Secretariat complex went viral on social media.

The story entitled “Anambra Man Insists On Staying At Erosion Site Until FG Fixes The Problem” went viral after it was spotted on nairaland social media forum. It was also published on wakkinews.com and massmediang.com.

Okafor who is a business man based in Anambra got inspired to go into environmentalism and green advocacy after taking Environmental Communication classes in Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) where he is also concluding a B.Sc degree in the part time programme of the institution.

Okafor’s creativity led the massmediang team to recognize him with the Best Creative Eco Reporter award for his outstanding environmental communication techniques which involve less talk but more action.

Other members of LGG who were recognized for distinguishing themselves in ecological reporting are Ezekiel Okafor, Kelechi Obasi and Ndidi Osaluwe.
