Abstract
Utilization of Family Planning Information by Young Fathers in Awka Metropolis is a product of literature disclosure on negligence of research on utilization of Family Planning Information among young fathers. This study therefore, was designed to find out whether respondents’ are aware of family planning messages; their major sources of information on family planning; their perception of family planning information needs; respondents’ attitude towards family planning and to ascertain if respondents use family planning techniques in controlling child bearing and spacing.
In supplying empirical answers to above research questions, the researcher adopted the survey research method. Equally, the uses and gratification and individual difference theories of mass communication were applied to provide empirical explanation to the phenomenon under study. Research findings revealed that the respondents are well exposed to media information on family planning using the radio as their major source of information but refused to accept and use them for effective population control. The researcher concluded that young fathers in Awka have negative perception and attitudes towards family planning media information. The researcher therefore concluded that conferences and sensitization campaigns should be designed to educate the people more on the important of sizeable family and implication of overpopulation to the society.
