Crime: 200-level computer science student arrested for strangling 67-year-old tricycle operator to death

Police in Abia State have arrested a 200 level computer science student for allegedly strangling a tricycle operator, Peter Eseonu, to death in Umuahia.

The suspect, Chinonso David Ibekwe, is a 25-year-old 200 Level Student of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike.

His arrest was made by detectives attached to the Umuahia Central Police Station in Abia.

According to reports, Ibekwe hired the services of the deceased, claiming that he was going to pick some harvested farm produce from his mother’s farm at Amuzukwu, a suburb of the Abia capital city.

However, on getting to the farm, the suspect attacked his victim, strangled him with a rope and dumped his body in a ditch in the area, while he made away with his tricycle.

An unnamed man, who was defaecating in the bush, witnessed the incident went back to the community to report the case.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Adeleye Oyebade, confirmed the incident to the press.

Oyebade said the suspect was arrested following reports on the missing 67-year-old Eseonu, who hailed from Ekenaobizi Umuopara, Umuahia.

He said police operatives accosted the suspect, who later gave them information that led to the discovery of the decomposing body of the deceased.

The CP added that the body of the deceased had been deposited in an undisclosed morgue for preservation and autopsy, while the 25-year-old Ibekwe had been charged to court and remanded in prison.

Reports have it that the suspect specializes in killing keke operators and killing keke operators and burying them in shalow graves at Amauzukwu in Umuahia.
In his Confession, the suspect said he uses rope to strangle his victims to death before taking their keke and burying them in a shallow grave in Amazukwu Umuahia.

He his targets are majorly old men who may not be able to resist his strength.

However, within the period under review, the Command has recorded various achievements through the implementation of its identified crime fighting strategies. Here-under are some of our achievements within the period:
On 01/07/2017 at about 1200hrs, sequel to information received on the missing of one Peter Alaebuonu Eseonu, a tricycle operator, 67years ‘m’ of Ekenaobizi Umuopara Umuahia on 27/06/2017; detectives attached to Central Police Station, Umuahia swooped on one Chinonso David Ibekwe, 25yrs ‘m’ of Ndiotu Ntalakwu, Bende LGA. The suspect, a 200 level Computer Science student of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike Abia State gave a lead towards the recovery of the decomposing body of the said Peter Alaebuonu Eseonu in a ditch at Amuzukwu Umuahia. He has however, confessed to the crime while the decomposing body of the deceased has been deposited in the morgue for preservation and autopsy. The suspect has been charged to Court and remanded in Prison custody.
