• Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University students’ welfare activities began with a Caretaker Committee in 2002 led by Ike Nwakerendu of the Department of Mass Communication. This was the committee that wrote the constitution with which the first Students Union Election was held in 2003.
• The first Students Union President of COOU was Nnamdi Nweke while the first Secretary General of the Union was Chibueze Adirika. They headed the first Students Union Government which was elected in 2003.
• The First Speaker of the Students’ Representative Council was Rt. Hon. Chuka Okpala of the Department of Mass Communication.
• Comrade Ifeanyichukwu Ike popularly called ‘Second Son’ was the second SUG President. His tenure was short-lived as he resigned after a few months in power and made way for Rt. Hon. Chino Ugwunze who was the Speaker of the Students’ Representative Council to take over as Students’ Union President.
