A new Age Grade is making waves in a remote community in Imo State, with a stretch of people-oriented development projects springing up without government assistance.
The ‘Ofu Obi’ age grade is new in town but members of this body have decided to announce their organisation through good deeds and not noise making.
The organisation has almost completed the construction of Doctors’ quarters at the village health center, in Obodoukwu, Ideato-North Local Government Area of Imo State.
This is in addition to provision of a 30KVA Generator for the quarters, a functional borehole for the entire health center, and other rehabilitation activities to bring the health center back to life.
Reports have it that the ‘Ofu Obi’ age grade plans to turn Obodoukwu community into an enclave where life will be same as in mega cities with basic state-of-the-art facilities existing there.
The group has commenced her long-term development plans with the renovation of the village health center and construction of a portable but modern Doctors’ quarters for visiting physicians in the health center. This is with a view to ensuring quality rural healthcare delivery in the community.
Reports have it that people in the community have been excited since the arrival of ‘Ofu Obi’ about one year ago because of the caliber of young men n the group; men whose heart is enlarged by the desire to make their community great.
This age grade is already making waves even before her inauguration which comes up on the 3rd of January, 2018. That is the same day the Doctors’ Quarters project will be commissioned. It is really good times for Obodoukwu as a true age grade has emerged to realistically take the community to several next levels.
‘Ofu Obi’ has concluded plans for a N200 million launching programme on the 3rd of January targeted and rebuilding the Secondary School in the community. The intention is not just to provide state-of-the-art infrastructure in the Secondary School but to motivate teachers to reside within the community with facilities that will also encourage learning and provide conducive learning environment.
