Arsenal boss, Arsene Wenger, has said that the problems of Chelsea are based on a small squad which cannot be used to prosecute a challenging season. He quickly added that Chelsea could recall some of the numerous players they sent out on loan as a way of handling the squad problem.
Wenger also said he sympathises with Chelsea counterpart Antonio Conte over the size of his squad, but feels they caused their own problems by loaning out too many players.
When Wenger was asked in a recent press conference if he was surprised that Conte was complaining about his squad size, he said: “Maybe, yes he has the opposite problem [to Arsenal] but if you look at the number of players that are out on loan, they can call a few back.
“I have sympathy for him. But do I feel sorry for Chelsea because they don’t have enough players? Then no.”
It could be recalled that Conte has complained several time during preseason about a lack of depth in his squad. Although he has spent over £130million on new signings, he remains unhappy with the number of players at his disposal.
