Franck Ribery is still annoyed that Cristiano Ronaldo pipped him to the game’s top individual award back in 2013, after what was a stellar year for Bayern Munich.
He believes that the 2013 Ballon d’Or award was “stolen” from him by Ronaldo.
The Frenchman was a leading contender for the award just over four years ago having helped Bayern Munich to both Bundesliga and Champions League success.
The Bavarian giants beat fellow German side Borussia Dortmund in the final at Wembley, with the Bundesliga outfits overcoming Barcelona and Real Madrid in the last four.
But despite that, Ronaldo ended up winning the Ballon d’Or ahead of second-placed Lionel Messi, with Ribery ending up back in third.
The Portuguese has since gone on to claim three more such awards, taking his personal tally to five, the same amount as Messi.
But Ribery, now 34, still believes 2013 should have been his year.
“It was as if it was stolen from me,” Ribery said.
“It’s incomprehensible. I won every trophy, I couldn’t have done more. It was an injustice.
“I didn’t have my country behind me. I saw it with my own eyes that the French said Cristiano should win. Did the Portuguese want it to be Ribery or Messi? Of course not.
