An eight-month-old baby girl, Kassidy Smith has been confirmed dead after she fell out of mom’s vehicle onto the street and was run over by another vehicle.
According to reports, the sad incident happened around 10.30 am, Monday on North MacArthur Drive in Irving, Texas.
It was gathered that Kassidy’s mom was driving with her and her older children, ages 2, 3, and 6, in the car.
They were not restrained, notwithstanding two car seats in the vehicle
Sadly, as the mother was turning left onto Ranchview Trail, the right-back door opened and the baby fell out of the car and onto the road.
An unidentified driver of the black sedan ran over the baby and drove away.
Police said the infant and her three older siblings were unrestrained
Following her death, Irving Police Department revealed that the baby’s mother, who is still anonymous, is not facing charges at the moment.
Irving Police Department spokesperson Robert Reeves said;
“We do not believe there was any malicious intent. We are not calling it a hit-and-run because we don’t think the person that ran over the child knows they ran over that child.
They might have thought it was a package or an animal possibly, and they just ran over it and kept going.”
However, investigators said that although the child’s mother was not charged, she could eventually face a ‘range of potential charges,’ including child endangerment.
Speaking about the sad incident, witness police revealed that they initially thought a doll fell out of the car.
Upon seeing that it was a child, they pulled over and rushed over to help.
Meanwhile, the police are looking for the driver of a black sedan. The Texas Department of Family and Protective Service has also launched an investigation.
