Ghanaian masked investigative reporter, Anas Aremeyew Anas, has commended a Nigerian Lecturer, Dr. Chinenye Nwabueze, for adopting exceptional teaching technique in explaining the rudiments of investigative journalism to his students.
Dr. Nwabueze, a lecturer in the department of Mass Communication, had resigned from his former place of work, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, after 15 years of service to the institution.
Anas wrote an article entitled “when creativity is frowned upon” where he commended Dr. Nwabueze for using unique teaching methods to “drum home the message of transparency and investigative reporting”.
He noted that “Dr. Nwabueze’s creative and innovative approach to teaching which has been hugely impactful is not in any way pleasing to the university authorities”, leading to the lecturer’s decision to leave the institution.
Anas further observed that students were unhappy with the lecturer’s exit from the institution due to the impact he made as their teacher.
When contacted by Massmediang to react on the development, Dr. Nwabueze said he was humbled by the fact that one of the most visible names in investigative reporting across the World, Anas Aremeyew Anas, could investigate his matter and write an article on it, which has now been read by the entire world.
Nwabueze noted that though he voluntarily resigned from the University, he could not fault the content of Anas’ report, as according to him, this was coming from a thorough investigative reporter of international reckoning.
Nwabueze said “there are various ways to ask someone who came to your house to leave. You can physically open the door for the person, you can tell the person to leave, or you can keep looking at the person in ways suggestive of the fact that there is an open door which is the only option for that person. I am aware of the fact that a lot of my students are disturbed by my decision to move on but in life there comes a time when you take difficult decisions to get to your next level. I just want to emphasize that I voluntarily resigned to search for fresh challenges in the field of communication education.”
Nwabueze has since moved to other institutions in search of appointment as a lecturer.
