Anambra Guber: Obiano Declares Friday, Nov 17, Public Holiday

Written by Kingsley Ezekwelu
Anambra’s Gov Willie Obiano has said that the right to vote and to be voted for remains civic responsibility and a fundamental human right as enshrined the constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria.

He further declared Friday, Nov 17, which is eve of the state’s Governorship election as a public holiday to enable civil servants in the state participate fully in the upcoming election in the state.

Gov. Obiano made this known during the 2017 African Public Service Day celebration was held at Jerome Udorji  state secretariat Awka.

While speaking to the civil servants,Gov Obiano announced that his administration will pay the leave allowance of all workers before Nov 15, said pay increase for all civil servants across board have been factored into the 2018 state budget.

Gov Obiano also debunked insinuations that he mandated all workers under the State to enroll for the contributory pensions scheme, adding that what the government did was to set up a committee to look into the initiative and advise government on the way forward.

Promising that the state will sustain its seasonal largesse to the workers, the governor urged them to continue to support his administration especially in its second term bid.

Earlier in his address, the Head of Service, Bar. Harry Udu enumerated some of the major things the Governor has done for them, including the massive recruitment of physically challenged persons to ensure social inclusiveness, introduction of mass transit buses for workers, among many others, assuring that they were aware of what was required of them in terms of support for the governor giving his humane disposition towards them.

Highpoints of the celebration was presentation of award of recognition to some deserving civil servants.
