The erection of President Jacob Zuma’s giant statue in Owerri, over the weekend, by the IMO State governor, has caused him more condemnation than praise.
One of the people that condemned the act is a former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode, who lashed out at the governor after playing host to Zuma.
Fani-Kayode tweeted: “Nigerians are murdered by South African security forces every day yet the clown in Imo state builds a statue in honor of Pres. Zuma.
“Igbos are murdered by Nigerian security forces every day yet that same clown in Imo state continues worship @MBuhari.
“Slavery is a curse!”
Zuma, who is facing multiple accusations of corruption, fraud, and money laundering in his country, arrived Imo State on a two-day working visit on Friday.
While in Owerri, he also bagged the chieftaincy title ‘Ochiagha’ (Warlord).
Also reacting, the Civil Society Network Against Corruption, which is a civil society organisation, condemned Okorocha for not only directing an Imo monarch to confer a traditional title on Zuma but also unveiling a “giant” statue of the South African leader “in a conspicuous place in Owerri.”
The group, in a statement by its Chairman, Olanrewaju Suraju, noted that it was wrong of Okorocha to honour Zuma who had been indicted for corruption in South Africa in that manner.
