A chief magistrate’s court in Badagry Lagos State witnessed a case involving a 35-year-old man identified as Bolaji Ojo who allegedly punched off the teeth of a hawker over two loaves of bread.
It was reported that Bolaji whose address is unknown, is being tried for assault on Mrs Blessing Ndive, after he delivered a heavy blow on her which made her lose a tooth.
The police prosecutor Akpan Ikem, who presented the matter in court said the accused committed the offence on May 9 at 6, Eze-Obi Etegbin in Ajangbadi in Badagry Local Government Area.
According to him, “The accused and the complainant (Blessing) had a heated argument over two loaves of bread, which the accused wanted to buy, but Blessing objected to it.”
The prosecutor added that; “He started beating the woman and he even removed one of her teeth. It was onlookers that saved the complainant from more harm.”
He also said that the accused contravened Section 243 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised) which provides seven years for offenders.
Chief Magistrate Jimoh Adefioye granted the accused who pleaded not guilty, bail in the sum of N100,000, with two sureties, who must provide evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
