In times of ‘wanderlust’ and global economy, nearly all of us travel for work, or pleasure. But travelling often takes a toll on our body, especially stomach. One of the most common side effects of travelling is constipation.

Here are five ways to travel fuss-free:

1. A shot of apple cider vinegar a day keeps constipation away

You can put one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in a little bit of water and drink it 15-30 minutes before each meal. This will help in better digestion and consequently, easier poop. It helps to stimulate the production of gastric juices, which are essential for breaking down food properly. This aids digestion by cutting down on bloating and abdominal cramping, and optimising bowel movements.

2. Carry sachets of ginger tea

Ginger removes stagnancy in the body, keeps you hydrated, boosts your circulation, minimises swelling in your feet and legs, and keeps things moving in the body. But ginger tea doesn’t mean your usual, ginger-milk tea.You will have to opt for the dip-sachet-in-hot-water version.

3. Take a hot shower

This one may be surprising. Taking a 20-minute hot shower before leaving your hotel and once immediately after arriving allows our body to reset as well. Heat shock proteins (HSPs) are released upon the stimulus of heat, says Mona Dan, an acupuncturist. These protect our bodies against stress-inducing events. If you want to kick it up a notch, you can also add citrus essential oils to boost relaxation and digestion. Many hotels provide them as well.

4. Avoid airplane food

Many of us take flights for easy and speedy travel. And to dig in once the food arrives, served by a smiling air hostess or steward. But airplane food can be dehydrating, which means hard poop. So pack food for your flight. Yes, your mother was right about forcing you to take homemade food.

5. Time your poop

We know that travelling means being outside for long stretches of time. That is all the more reason to time your poop or potty train yourself. A good poop before leaving, and regular hydration will ensure easy poop the next morning as well, and on time.

Follow these tips to avoid being stuck in the hotel, staring at bathroom wallpapers while your family or friends enjoy outside.
