Top 10 On-Air Personalities In Owerri

Owerri, the Imo State capital has an exciting media landscape with radio and television stations of impressive reckoning. Most of the on-air personalities (OAPs) in various media houses have become household names in the city because of the popularity of their programmes and a growing broadcast media audience in the state. Some of the OAPs are standing out because of their unique qualities and presentation style. Here is a list of top 10 OAPs in Owerri, and in fact, the entire Imo State.

 

10. Angel Ekenasi

Angel Ekenasi is a presenter in IBC Orient Fm/Tv. She’s an indigenous citizen of Ebenator Ekwe in Isu LGA, Imo state. She is a Newscaster, Continuity Announcer and also anchors live programmes.

9. Princess Ukaegbu – Hot 99.5 FM

Princess Ukaegbu is a household name in Imo State. The beautiful OAP who was a one-time presenter of Evening Traffic show on Zandas Fm left the station for Hot Fm also in Owerri. She is a funny and fast-talking On Air Personality. She is fondly called Pri Pri nwa or Ekwureku 1 of Africa, with a resounding voice and ‘A’ grade in pidgin English. Princessa has won the hearts of many with the traffic show she handled in Zanders 105.7 Fm Owerri. Those who lived in Lagos didn’t have to miss the Wazobia Fm type of traffic show fun because Princessa’s traffic show was as hilarious and lively one.

8. Sunny Idika – Darling 107.3 FM,  Owerri 

Sunny Idika a.k.a Mazi Nnaamen hails from Amuke Ohafia Abia State. Started his career in broadcasting when he recorded a song for a TV program at NTA Aba. Awed by his talent, he was introduced to cast Pidgin English news for about Two Years. In his adventurous spirit he left for Port Harcourt where he met Wenigha Jackson a.k.a family man, joined his Program called MAN MUST WAK, much later radio in UYO. He has received so many awards both as a presenter and a stand-up Comedian. Moved to and worked in Owerri before he was poached to join the Darling team.

7. Adaeze Chilakpu – Hot 99.5 FM

Adaeze Chilakpu who is fondly called by her nickname Adizuo, is a presenter in Hot Fm Owerri. She is a presenter of the ‘Evening showers’. Her programme which comes up on week days, Monday through Thursday starts by 8pm

6. Chinonso Uba Darling 107.3 FM,  Owerri

Chinonso Uba was born in Onitsha Anambra State, South East Nigeria but a native of Umunoha in Mbaitoli LGA of Imo state, South East Nigeria. A graduate of Imo state University, Chinonso is a musician, actor and scriptwriter who has 4 highlife albums and more than 15 nollywood movies to his credit. A corporate Master of Ceremony with over a decade experience in both local and international events. A radio broadcaster whose specialty in Igbo language stands him out among equals in the south east of Nigeria. Chinonso Uba has won many awards which include The Best Igbo Presenter Award 2014. He is a free thinking entity, liberal minded, jovial and accommodating.

5. Nwakaego Ohaegbulam – Hot 99.5 FM

Nwakaego Ohaegbulam who is fondly called Lolo is a presenter in Hot Fm Owerri. She is from Orlu LGA, Imo state. She is a devoted presenter. She is devoted to her programme known as People’s Assembly, which comes up on weekly days, at hours of 8:30 am – 9:30 am.

4. Sir John Nwogu – Orient 94.4 FM

Sir John Nwogu is a sports presenter in IBC Orient fm. He is an indigenous citizen of Ngor Okpala LGA in Imo state. His programme known as Sports Agogo starts every Saturday at hours of 1pm to 2pm. He is a well experienced presenter with Orient Fm whose vast knowledge of sports has keptany listeners loyal to the station.

3. Ebere Akalaonu – Hot 99.5 FM

Ebere Akalonu who is well known as E berry is an inspirational presenter with Hot Fm Owerri. She has won the hearts of her listeners with her well refined voice on air. She also attracted lots of fans especially the female ones due to her catchy Nick name E berry. According to her “Ladies are attracted to berries, like strawberry and BlackBerry thing which is so feminine. She studied mass communication in Imo State University. She’s from Abia state, happily married in Ulakwo, Owerri North LGA. She anchors the Lunch Hour Show which starts by 12 noon, from Monday through Friday and Birthday Show which starts by 8am and ends by 8:30am every week day.

2. Solomon Onu -Hot 99.5 FM

Solomon Onu who is popularly known as Solo Mourinho is an active sports presenter in Hot Fm Owerri. He is from Ikeduru LGA in Imo state. He is dedicated to his sports programme which comes up on Mondays through Fridays at hours of 7:30am – 8am & 5:30pm – 6pm, then on Saturdays at 7:30am – 8:30am. He debateson sports activities and commentaries in order to reach his target audience. Solo Mourinho is easily the best sports presenter in the state and one of the best in the southeast zone. The intensity of his presentation style, passion for his job and vast knowledge of developing issues in the sports arena make him unique.

1. Joyce Unegbu – Orient 94.4 FM

At number one is Joyce Unegbu. She is a steady & committed presenter of IBC Orient Fm and Tv stations. She’s from Mbaise. She’s the Director of Programmes in Orient Fm/Tv. Joyce is a household name in Imo state, especially among broadcast media audience. The programmes she anchor’s are ‘Reach Out’ which starts by 3:05 pm on Tuesdays, Talking Politics – Thursdays at 12:05 pm, Anniversary Hub – Saturday at 11 am, Take a Chance – Mondays at 3:05 pm, and Hello Ladies – Fridays at 3:05 pm. She studied communication arts at the University of Ibadan. She’s devoted to her work.
