Shocking scan reveals nurse’s body is riddled with cancer ‘just 3 months after doctors thought aches were all in her head’

FOR months Georgia McLennan suffered severe pain – but she claims doctors dismissed her aches as just being in her head.

The 24-year-old nurse spent more than three months going back and forth between doctors before a shock scan revealed her body was riddled with cancer.

Her disease was so severe doctors thought she was going to die within days.

“I found out later they thought I was going to die that weekend,” Georgia told the Gold Coast Bulletin.

“I didn’t even have my mum there because I hadn’t really worried it was cancer.”

Doctors spent months trying to work out what was causing Georgia’s pain, which began as chest pains after New Year’s Eve last year.

Georgia, from the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia, said it reached a point where medics questioned if the pain was actually all in her head.

“I was in that much pain I was going once or twice a week to the doctor … It was at this point he asked if perhaps it was all in my head,” she recalled.

Eventually, she was diagnosed with tumours on her spleen and liver, but it wasn’t until she had a PET scan that the full extent of her cancer was discovered.

“(A) haematologist initially didn’t feel it was lymphoma as I didn’t have all the usual symptoms such as extreme weight loss, rashes, fevers and drenching night sweats,” she said, adding that she was so bloated she looked pregnant.

“When I saw the scan I realised this is very bad …(but) the only time I cried throughout the whole ordeal was when I had to tell my parents.

“All these doctors couldn’t believe I was even alive and how positive I was.”

Georgia was diagnosed with Burkitt’s lymphoma, a fast growing type of non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

She endured three months of chemotherapy and spinal injections once a week to treat her cancer.

In August, she had her tenth and final round of chemotherapy and spinal injections and is now in remission.

Georgia has shared her story to raise awareness of the signs of the disease in the hope it saves another person’s life.
