Agro-Medals! Outstanding Students Receive Chicken, Paw Paw, Watermelon, Yam, Eggs and Vegetables As Award

In a bid to encourage agriculture among the youth in Nigeria, an online news platform, massmediang.com, has presented agricultural products to students of the Department of Mass Communication, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) as award for their exceptional performances in a short Film Festival organized by the platform.

Three overall best performers. Emmanuel Anene (middle – Overall Best Actor), Karen Nnanyelugo (Left – best actress), Precious Onyeka (Right – best actress). Two performers tied on the best actress award.

The event took place on Tuesday, May 1, at the Igbariam campus of COOU

Students of the department had grouped themselves into various teams to produce short films as part of their classwork but massmediang.com decided to fund the award ceremony to recognize the best performers in the film production exercise.

The students received paw paw, water melon, chicken, vegetables (Ugu), yam tubers and eggs, depending on the category.

Editor of massmediang.com, Peter Ikegbunam, expressed his excitement over the talents and creativity exhibited by students in the short Film Festival, adding that he was glad to be part of an organization that honoured students for excelling in practical aspect of their course.

Ikegbunam however insisted that the most genuine way to encourage the youth to give value to agriculture was to make sure that every reward for hard work or in any competition is agricultural product.

He said beauty queens should be given large farms to cultivate and enjoy. “Rewards and prizes of all kinds should be from the farm or any agro-related source,” he said.

This is the second edition of the massmediang awards in COOU which is used to encourage students to do well in practical courses.
